Consideration of the Pakistan and Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (goods)

The Committee on Trade and Development during its Second Dedicated Session on Regional Trade Agreements reviewed the FTA between Pakistan and Sri Lanka on 15 July 2009.

The Agreement was signed on 1 August 2002 and entered into force on 12 June 2005. The text and annexes of the agreement is available here

The representative of Sri Lanka on behalf of the two parties outlined the main aspects of the agreement.

Members asked questions and pointed out the potential of the agreement to increase the bilateral trade between the two countries.

When it comes to the question of extension of the product coverage, Pakistan’s intention was to review the current arrangements after they had been fully implemented, with a view to broadening the coverage.
