Pakistan shares its experiences in the TBT Committee workshop on 'The Role of International Standards in Economic Development'

The workshop was held on 16-17 March09. It was mainly divided into three sessions. The first session provided theoretical background, experts from the academia and government spoke about the benefits and cost of standardization activities - and efforts to quantify these. In the Second session countries shared their experiences, these presentations included a wide range of product specific standards. Third session was focused on recommendations and the challenges being faced by the developing countries. Presentation was made on STDF .World Bank indicated that the return on investment in the standards and quality related infrastructure is the highest. UNIDO also talked about their initiatives especially 3C approach. Several participants highlighted the need to use Aid for Trade funds for developing quality control mechanisms and related infrastructure.
